A Florida judge ruled yesterday that George Zimmerman's defense team is entitled to access toTrayvon Martin's facebook and twitter account records. They successfully argued that because the victims state of mind is always relevant in a stand your ground defense to murder; They should be able to examine the posts that Martin made shortly before he was killed. The prosecution tried to convince judge Debra Nelson that the records were not relevant to the case.
If the judge would not have allowed them access to the records, it likely would have created an appellate issue if Zimmerman is ultimately convicted. By allowing the defense access to the information, it bypasses that issue. Although it may be a personal blow to Martin's family, it is in their long term best interest. At least from a legal standpoint anyway. A good ruling by judge Nelson.
